Fresh, Soph, Junior Years

Freshmen Year

FALL

  • Set goals in your classes (grades) and personal life
  • Get involved in extracurricular activities, sports, and/ or volunteer work
  • Begin looking into college and career resources
  • Attend a Career Day, College Fair, or visit a college campus
  • Research the career area(s) of your interest
  • Talk with your parents or a supportive adult about your plans after high school

SPRING

  • Meet with the Academic Counselor to discuss sophomore year and possibly your four year plan
  • Continue participating in extracurricular activities, sports, and/ or volunteer work
  • Continue researcing college and career resources
  • Attend a Career Day, College Fiar, or visit a college campus
  • Begin developing portfolio for college or a job

Sophomore Year

FALL

  • Check classes on four-year plan with Academic Counselor
  • Explore careers by interviewing adults or researching in your occupation of interest
  • Visit college campuses and attend college and career fairs
  • Sign up for the PSAT in September or ealry October
  • Take PSAT in October
  • Focus on academic work and meet your goals for good grades
  • Continue participating in extracurricular activities, sports, and/ or volunteer work

SPRING

  • Volunteer for an organization during the summer
  • Research college and finanical aid information
  • Meet with the Academic Counselor to review four-year plan
  • Focus on academic work and meet your goals for good grades
  • Continue participating in extracurriculuar activities, sports, and/ or volunteer work

Junior Year

Fall

  • Meet with Academic Counselor to review four-year plan
  • Work on grades and seek help where needed (Teacher Office Hours)
  • Visit colleges and attend college fairs
  • Attend presentations when University Reps are present
  • Sign up for PSAT in September or early October
  • Take PSAT in October
  • Review PSAT scores in December and find teachers or tutors to help you improve in your weak areas

SPRING

  • Meet with Academic Counselor to review updated four-year plan
  • Continue participating in extracurricular activities, sports, and volunteer work (emphasize leadership positions if possible)
  • Begin to research and plan for financing college or post graduation plan
  • Update your portfolio for a job or college application
  • Begin working on college essays
